Classic Italian with a twist in the heart of Little Italy, Montreal.
Impasto Restaurant
48, rue Dante, Montreal, Quebec H2S 1J5, Canada
After endlessly trying to get a reservation at this relatively new hotspot, I succeeded. I was able to snatch a seat for me and 3 friends at the bar. I mean, this place must be great if I needed to reserve 3 weeks in advance for a seat at the bar! I won't leave you hanging- it was definitely worth the wait. The small resto's decor was perfectly simple. Rustic with modern touches. Sitting at the bar ended up being a blessing in disguise, since it gave us a view into the resto's open kitchen. It was fun to watch the pros whip up our pastas and to see first-hand the freshness of the ingredients- they clearly have nothing to hide at Impasto! The bar seats were even equipped with a purse hook under the counter- convenience at its finest, right ladies!?
I'm not Italian, but I do always say I likely was in my past life. After spending a summer abroad in Florence, I could definitely say I've tasted some of the most delicious pastas this world has to offer. Guys- this is as close as it gets in Montreal. The snow crab pasta and cauliflower & swiss chard pasta were both decadent. Dare I say they surpassed some of the pastas I had during my time in Italy? And it didn't stop there, from the bread & olive oil to the tiramisu in its adorable jar, I'm not lying when I tell you that we all licked our plates clean.
I am not a food connoisseur, but I do love food (probably more than the average person) and all I can say is my taste buds KNOW what they like. So you should definitely make your way to Impasto. I know my friends and I will be back, probably just to try the spaghetti in tomato sauce. Sounds too simple, right? No. Every one of us WISHED we had ordered it. We were thrilled with our dishes, but trust me, this spaghetti looked unreal. Oh well, there's always next time!
Reservations: Definitely.
Date night: Yes. A glass of wine and plate of pasta will have him/her hooked.
Attire: Trendy casual. Don't overdo it.
The damage: $$$
